In term 1 of 2022 Whitebait Connection Coordinators Nic and Pat worked with Merryn Robinson and her year 7-10 classes at Mangakahia Area School for programme delivery. During the class introduction sessions it was evident the students already had alot of knowledge associated with fresh water and their local taiao.
As part of the programme the students went on a field trip to the local Karukaru awa. There were a diversity of macroinvertebrates at the site and a variety of fish.
Finnisha Tuhiwai, kaitiaki from Te Parawhau came along to the field trip and had a korero with the students about her mahi translocating elvers and shared some knowledge about tuna.
