‘Freshwater Fish Fun Day’

This coming Labour Weekend, the community has a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some not so common native freshwater fish. A free ‘Freshwater Fish Fun Day’ is being hosted by Whitebait Connection, Northland Regional Council, Ngā Kaitiaki o Ngā Wai Māori and the Department of Conservation and supported by NorthTec, Riffle Restoration, Fish and Game and Foundation North. Come and learnTuna Trails April 2018 KristineZipfel 193 2
more about what these amazing fish look like, how high they can climb and jump and what is being done to give them a helping hand. There will be live fish tank displays, swimming displays, electric fishing demos, games, prizes, stories with a life-size giant kōkopu and much more. The first 50 people to correctly answer the event competition questions (available on the day) will win a prize bag.

World Fish Migration Day is a one-day global celebration to create awareness on the importance of free-flowing rivers and migratory fish. As New Zealand is the first to see the sun, this Whangārei event will be live streamed around the world to help launch World Fish Migration Day internationally. Everyone is welcome to join! We are celebrating our love for fishes and rivers…love flows! Can we count on you?
