It's Seaweek! Come on down to Whitireia Park for a free community snorkel day with the Greater Wellington and Mountains to Sea Wellington – our first of two snorkels at this site. Prepare to be wowed by the diversity and vibrancy of underwater life in this protected marine area.

This year it's all about seaweed! Find out about the numerous benefits and uses of seaweed and how healthy carbon-sequestering marine flora could potentially save the world.

Our snorkel guides and marine experts will be on hand to help you every step of the way and make this a day to remember.

No bookings required, just be sure to click ‘interested’ or ‘going’ on this Facebook event so you receive important information in the lead-up. If the weather turns we’ll have to tweak our plans..

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
All equipment, guides and safety gear is provided.
Please note the minimum age is 8 years, and children below 16 must be accompanied by a snorkelling adult.
Participants must be able to swim 50 meters.
New snorkelers are encouraged.

HOW TO GET THERE:
The road to the snorkel site is narrow and can be dangerous when there’s a lot of traffic. You will not be able to drive your car to the site.

But there are free transport options available:

Porirua Train Station - park your car at the carpark, or make your own way to the station, and catch a free bus from the bus stop - leaving every hour from 10.00am-1.00pm

Titahi Bay bus stop in front of 8 Main Road – free buses will leave every 30 minutes from 9.30am-1.00pm

Whitireia Park top car park, near the junction of Whitireia Road and Transmitter Street – you can park your car here (spaces are limited) and catch one of the buses as it goes past.

You can also cycle to the site around the beautiful coastal track. Starting at Titahi Bay Boat Club, it’s 5km to the snorkel site.
Check the map posted on this event page for more travel information.

This event is brought to you by Greater Wellington Regional Council and Mountains to Sea Wellington.
